Apple Successfully Trolls HTC The Taiwanese manufacturer may not be able to sell Android devices in the US

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled in favour of Apple, who had accused HTC of infringing upon its patents. If the decision isn't vetoed in the next 60 days, the Taiwanese manufacturer will be banned from importing and selling its Android devices in the USA.

According to the complaint, HTC's Android offerings infringe upon at least two Apple patents. One of such patent covers the process of automatic detection and conversion of phone numbers and URLs contained within text messages into hyperlinks. The patent itself is very complicated, and that's the easiest explanation I could come up with. Interestingly, the feature in question isn't an HTC specific customisation. It has been a part of the stock Android OS since the Cupcake. It is therefore likely that the Cupertino-based company will sue many more Android OEMs in the future.

The ban will be enforced from 19th April, 2012. In the meantime, HTC will be allowed to import its Android products until 19th Dec, 2013 for warranty replacement commitments. Let's hope HTC will soon find a way to overcome this legal hurdle in the coming months.

A Japanese engineer just invented a nifty new way to travel: A transporter called a “WalkCar” that’s small, light and apparently easy to use. The product is battery powered and is about the size of a laptop. And although it looks like it can hold much weight and is made from aluminum, it can apparently have as much as 265 lbs on board. VentureBeat  reported  that it can go up to 6.2 miles per hour for up to 7.4 miles. It needs three hours to charge.

Tiny solar cells could soon charge electric vehicles while on the road

Researchers claim to have hit on the right combination of solar cell type and battery to charge an electric vehicle battery with higher efficiency than ever before. The team behind the research says the system could soon make it possible to attach small cells to a car that will charge the vehicle while being driven – on a sunny day, at least. The researchers from Case Western Reserve University wired four perovskite solar cells in series to directly photo-charge lithium batteries with 7.8 percent efficiency, which they believe to be the most efficient configuration reported to date.
